What is Sugaring?

Jillian Crabtree • June 16, 2024

An Ancient art of hair removal.

Rating

Sugaring, an ancient hair removal technique, utilizes a paste made exclusively from natural ingredients; sugar, water, and lemon juice.

Features of Sugaring

A standout feature of sugaring is its gentle nature. Unlike many hair removal methods, the sugar paste doesn't stick to the skin and lacks harsh chemicals, making it ideal for sensitive skin.

Sugaring offers a natural alternative to traditional hot waxing. This gentle exfoliation effectively removes dead skin cells without adhering to or lifting live skin cells, ensuring safety through multiple passes over the same area.

The Sugaring Process

The process begins with preparing the sugar paste and applying it against the hair growth direction, allowing it to penetrate the follicles. It is then removed in a 'flicking' motion  in the same direction of growth. This technique ensures thorough root extraction with minimal risk of breakage compared to waxing, resulting in smoother, longer-lasting results.

Sugaring is also free from parabens and other chemicals, reducing waste by eliminating the need for sticks, strips, or cloth. Suitable for all skin and hair types, as well as all body shapes and sizes, sugaring offers effective hair removal leading to permanent hair growth reduction. Each time you sugar, the hairs grow back a little thinner and more sparse, and with consistent sugaring, less and less hair will grow back!
