How Long Should You Sugar Before Doing Certain Activities? Plus, What to Avoid for 48 Hours After

If you’re new to sugaring or just want to get the best results possible, you may be wondering: How long should I sugar before doing certain activities? And what should I avoid after sugaring? We’ve got you covered!

How Long Should You Sugar Before Doing Certain Activities?

Sugaring leaves your skin soft and smooth, but it also makes it temporarily more sensitive. If you have a big event or activity coming up, here’s how long you should plan ahead before sugaring:

  • Beach Vacations & Swimming – Sugar at least 48 hours before to avoid irritation from saltwater and chlorine.
  • Tanning or Sunbathing – Sugar 3-4 days before to prevent sun sensitivity and potential irritation.
  • Weddings or Special Events – Get sugared 3-5 days before to allow any redness to subside while keeping your skin smooth.
  • Intimate Moments – While everyone’s skin reacts differently, waiting 24-48 hours after a Brazilian sugaring helps minimize sensitivity.
  • Workouts & Sports – Avoid excessive sweating for 48 hours after sugaring to prevent irritation and breakouts.
  • Waxing Again – If switching from waxing to sugaring, wait at least two weeks to allow your hair to grow to the right length.

What to Avoid for 48 Hours After Sugaring

After your appointment, your skin will be extra sensitive, so there are a few things you should hold off on for at least 48 hours to keep your skin happy and irritation-free:

  1. Heat & Sweat – Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and intense workouts. Excess heat can open your pores, leading to irritation or breakouts.
  2. Sun Exposure & Tanning – Your freshly sugared skin is more vulnerable to sun damage, so skip direct sun exposure and tanning beds.
  3. Exfoliating – While regular exfoliation helps prevent ingrown hairs, wait at least 48 hours before scrubbing to avoid irritation.
  4. Swimming – Stay out of pools, hot tubs, and the ocean. Chlorine and salt water can cause stinging and dryness.
  5. Tight Clothing – Give your skin room to breathe! Avoid tight leggings, jeans, or anything that may cause friction.
  6. Heavy Lotions & Fragranced Products – Stick to gentle, natural moisturizers like our Hydrate & Heal Balm to keep your skin nourished.

The Best Aftercare for Long-Lasting Results

If you’ve just had a Brazilian sugaring treatment, proper aftercare is especially important for keeping your skin smooth and irritation-free. Moisturize daily and start gently exfoliating after 48 hours. Regular maintenance appointments every 4-6 weeks will help keep your hair growing back finer and softer.
